New & returning guests, welcome to the Emily Monk Davidson Gallery (EMD) at the Farmville Community Arts Council (FCAC). We’re proud to present "Together, We Create," a sweet duo exhibition featuring local artist Elaine Hinchman & her eleven-year-old granddaughter, Annabelle. Marking their debut presentation with our gallery, this exhibition showcases a collection of energetic landscapes & spirited abstracts that explore the profound intersection of familial legacy & artistic discovery.
 
Elaine, known for her mastery of "bold and expressive use of heavy texture," utilizes a hand-crafted medium of glue & paper applied with a spatula to mirror the rugged beauty of the outdoors. Beside her, Annabelle’s work thrives on spontaneity and "letting her imagination lead the way," utilizing collage & stencils to build rich, evolving layers. For Elaine, “The exhibit celebrates the bond between granddaughter and grandmother, sharing creativity, love, and imagination through making art side by side."
 
While Elaine seeks to capture her "appreciation of the beauty that surrounds us," Annabelle focuses on the internal journey, allowing each piece to "grow and change until it becomes something that feels true to what she feels." Together, their work captures a unique perspective on mentorship: one where the "shared creativity & time spent doing art" becomes as much the masterpiece as the finished canvases themselves.
